This was DELICIOUS!
Cherry_Berry_Smoothie

Cherries are in season. Whenever they’re on sale I buy pounds of them and use a cherry pitter and freeze them so I have them for weeks (or days – depending on how fast I go through them) to come.

I love them! So much so, that after I’ve pitted the cherries I peel off any fruit that may be left on the pit and add that to the bag. You may laugh, but I probably get another dozen cherries worth of fruit per bag when I do. Of course I use whatever juice may be left in the bowl as well. Waste not want not when it comes to fresh cherries!

Here’s what’s in the smoothie:

  • A dozen or so frozen cherries
  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries
  • half a cup of orange juice
  • half a cup of filtered water
  • 2 carrots peeled and chopped
  • half a cup of raw, whole cashews (great source of fat and some protein)
  • 1 scoop of Anabolic Labs Super reds anti-oxidant powder
  • 1 scoop of Anabolic labs Pure-Tein whey protein (casein free.)

Whip it all up in the NutriBullet and enjoy.

Here’s a hint:

If you add protein powder to your smoothie, blend all the other ingredients first and then add it as the last ingredient. Then whip it up for about 10 seconds.

Here’s why:

If you’ve ever seen egg whites whipped up to make a meringue then you know they become light and fluffy. Same thing happens when you whip up whey protein. It expands as well. If you put it in before you blend up the other ingredients it may expand too soon and you might not get the other ingredients blended as smoothly. Blend everything else first and get it as smooth and creamy as you like. Then add the protein for a quick blend to mix it in and it will be nice and cold and frothy.

Enjoy!
